The works for this clock were made by Augustine Neisser (sometimes spelled Neiser). Augustine Neisser (1717-1780) was born in Schlen and lived in Zilnia, Moravia. As a member of the Moravian faith he became persecuted in his homeland and emigrated to Georgia in 1736. Three years later he settled in Germantown, PA. Having established himself as a reputable clockmaker, he was hired to make a tower clock for the Great Moravian Church in Bethlehem. His works have been displayed in the National Watch and Clock Museum. This particular clock has a beautifully engraved face with landscape and globe scenes. It has an eight day movement with a sweep second hand and a moon phase tied dial. It also has a strike silent lever. The face is complemented by three dimensional cast spandrals. The clock is in running condition. |
