Description:

Charles Hargens studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and was a member of the Society of Illustrators and the Philadelphia Sketch Club.  He became an illustrator of magazines, history books, and western stories and worked for publishers including MacMillan and Doubleday.  In 1940, he moved to the town of Carversville in Solebury Township, Bucks County, Pennsylvania.

The Chestnut Street Engraving Co., Inc,. of Philadelphia commissioned Charles Hargens to provide twelve oils on canvas for a calendar depicting modes of transportation for the year 1938 this engraving was for July of 1938.
