Pair of Important Mahogany Ladderback Sidechairs
Description:
A “ribbon-back” form with a serpentine seat, slightly tapered legs and stretchers. Made for Captain Thomas Mason by Jacob Wayne. Also pictured on Plate #101 in Horner’s Philadelphia Blue Book. Included is an image of the original receipt from Jacob Wayne to Captian Thaomas Mason.

Mahogany with needlepoint seats.
Condition:
Both chairs are in excellent condition for their age. There is minor wear along the legs and one chair is missing its rear-left seat block.
Origin: Philadelphia, PA.
Date: d. October 21, 1790.
Provenance:
Originally owned by Captian Thomas Mason (a Revoluntionary War hero) descending to Dr. Henry Plessants (great-great-grandson to Thomas Mason) to James Sorber to Philip Bradley. Ex. collection of Dr. John Boor.
