Portrait by Arshile Gorky
Description:

This profile of this sketch was a common theme by Gorky. ALthough he never spoke of much of being an Armenian Jew during the Holocaust, Gorky's work often expressed the sadness and longing that emerged from such suppressed experiences.  He had painted this stylized interpretation of his mother whom he had lost tragically during the Holocaust.  This is an excellent example of his mother wonderfully framed.
