A Striking Polychrome Painted Dower Chest
Description:
Red pinwheel floral bouquets contrasts nicely against a navy background. Centered in the chest composition is a red circle with the initial "AH" in the middle. A white border surrounds the background with red hearts name and date, "Maria Barbara Schafferin Anno 1786". There is a nice mid molding over two sponge painted doors over black painted bracket feet.
Materials and Techniques:
Pine with polychrome milk paint.
Condition:
The feet are pieced 2" up, there is wear throughout the chest and paint on the lid is restored.
